Mount Somers Springburn School Overview
Mount Somers Springburn School is a full primary (Years 1-8) rural school.
The school’s five classrooms and administration area are undergoing some exciting refurbishments that will include modifications to improve access for all tamariki and the addition of a new STEAM/Library room. Our tamariki helped design our new adventure playground area, there is a large playing field and a tennis/netball court, in ground trampolines, a BMX track and plenty of hedges to make those important lunchtime forts.
Our school draws pupils from a wide surrounding area and receives close parent and community support. Around 80% of our children travel to school by bus each day, a service that is directly resourced and managed by the school.
Our school is part of the Mid Canterbury network of schools and as part of this group, schools interact for sport and cultural events. We are part of the Opuke Kahui Ako with eight other schools and we are positive about the opportunities being involved in such a cluster brings.

We develop effective home/school relationships and encourage parents and our local community to take an active role in the life of the school and our children’s learning. The school has the support of a committed Board of Trustees, Home and School Committee, and enthusiastic and willing parents and caregivers.

Amongst our community there is strong support for schoolwide activities and event days. The Home and School Committee is an important foundation of MtSS who organise many events throughout the year and a a major drive of fundrasing for the school. The parent community team meet regularly and we encourage all members of our community to come along and get involved.
